Considering they all record 480i only, anyway, it shouldn't really matter where the tuner is. You are downconverting from HD resolution no matter what. I have done several recordings from my HDTivo to the ES10 and they look great, esp HD sources. My only complaint is that I can't encode anamorphic on discs, but that's what I get for not buying a $400 or more DVDR.
