stale crusts, gruel and rainwater . . . he never
got back to me.

Oh well . . .

PS
I prefer IR Tool myself.

Compelling prose. I think that could explain the "slaving away" part... I'm not entirely sure that you actually did that, but...

In IRTool (assuming you had already decoded a Sony device 1 command) don't you have to:

1. Hand enter the command number,
2. Copy the encoding,
3. Create a button in PE
4. Do some mouse clicks, paste into the IR window, and click a few more close boxes,
5. Remember to increment (or decrement) the command and go back to 1. -- 127 more times?

In MakeHex you:

1. Edit Sony12.irp change device=1 and Function=0..127 and save,
2. Drag and drop Sony12.irp onto MakeHex.exe,
3. Open Sony12.hex in notepad, make sure word wrap is off and copy the text,
4. Open IRPanels paste the text, hit Generate CCF File, and
5. Retrieve your ccf file from C:\Program Files\IRPanels

Maybe it will keep you away from the rats longer ...
