Dale,
The two "standard" things to try when the remote exhibits weird behavior like this are: 1 - do a screen calibration, be sure to use something pointed, not your finger; 2 - reflash the firmware, it's under "tools" and then update remote. Be sure not to cancel or in any way interupt the process.
