Hi Folks.
I have had a refurbished Marantz 5200 for almost four years now. And just in the last two weeks the touch screen has started freezing up. When it "freezes", sometimes nothing works when you touch it; sometimes you can push real hard and finally get a response; sometimes you push real hard and get MULTIPLE responses [more than you ever wanted! :) ].

The first time this happened, I placed it on the docking station overnight (thinking the battery might be low-but it was not) and it worked fine in the morning. This most recent time, it also worked in the morning, but the battery level was fine all along. I did notice this time that the touchscreen backlight came on by itself at one time during this "episode" (no touching needed). I also noticed that when I placed it on the charger, that the backlight STAYED on four many minutes (even though it is set for only 18 seconds).

Is my touchscreen/remote dying? Is there any hope of saving this beloved family member? Any thought? Hopes? Salvation?

Thank you so much for your time.

Dale

Dale,

The two "standard" things to try when the remote exhibits weird behavior like this are: 1 - do a screen calibration, be sure to use something pointed, not your finger; 2 - reflash the firmware, it's under "tools" and then update remote. Be sure not to cancel or in any way interupt the process.

Does sound possibly like a calibration issue... when you push "harder" you're pushing a greater area of the screen and the Pronto is smart enough to try to figure out what you're pushing... and so takes the first button you come close to.

You will ALSO most likely want to reset the remote and/or reflash the firmware.

Although there is a tedious, time-consuming solution for the fatal-looking thing that happens if you do.

In other words, ProntoEdit might have a "cancel" button, but that doesn't mean that it can be used!
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.
