I agree with those people who think that the 3100 dims too slowly. I understand that people convert their x-10 remotes to IR (as you described above) to let the 3100 learn the dim function from the X-10 remote. I tried to do that by:

1. Changing the X-10 to IR. On the X-10 remote
a. Press and hold setup
b. Press x-10 button
c. release setup and x-10
d. press 0
e. press 1
f. press 4
2. Learn dim. On the 3100
a. Press and hold commander off and muting
b. release both
c. choose learn
d. Choose the function for lighting (I use the CD component)
e. Choose and Press a key ( I tried vol -)
f. Beep
g. Aim the x-10 at the 3100 and press dim on x-10 remote
h. Beep
i. Repeat for Vol + and Brighten
j. Press commander off and test

I tried this and the led on the IR543 doesn't register when i hit dim or brighten. It does register when i choose the x-10 device (like when I press 2 on the 3100, for device 2) or when I press off on the 3100.

Therefore, it doesn't seem to learn the function I just taught it. Incidentally, the LED on the x-10 remote doesn't stay on during the teach, it just goes on and off. However, before (in RF mode, I presume), the 3100 wouldn't learn from the x-10 remote. It would just time out and display NG. It doesn't do that in IR mode but apparently, it didn't learn either.

Ideas?
