You got the software not from URC directly, but through a URC dealer. I've been a URC dealer for several years and I don't recall anything in writing that said I could distribute software, it was all word of mouth through my URC rep. You'd probably have more luck suing your URC dealer.
And now the discussion is posted in public how to circumvent the login to software that you don't own. If anything, URC could probably take action against you guys. Might want to take those instructions to the realm of private messages.
Those shows have little, if anything, to do with the law ... especially around issues like this. URC would have been on solid ground to issue an update that disabled future live updates without credentials with a clear update to end user terms and conditions included.
However, what they did was effectively break software that had been provided to end users CONSISTENT with the terms and conditions in place at the time. That was a clear breach of express and implied contract terms. Why do you think URC has backed down so quickly on this? Because they clearly had their cages rattled by the complaints and no doubt received legal advice that confirmed they overreached.
