Those people are really contemptible. Do not update. Unfortunately no more new device support for us common people. Fortunately I had a recent system backup I was able to restore from.

Will the Control Room credentials work or do you need the credentials from the new Dealer Portal?

I never used a password, so I imagine the new dealer portal. The first time I opened the new version I got a login popup. I closed it without a user / password and CCP closed.

I set my firewall now to not allow CCP internet access.

Is their ridiculous stance to still throw dealers under the bus by saying they can give the software out at their discretion?  Wouldn't surprise me if they still say this and just expect dealers to give out their dealer login to boot

Unfortunately just got some new equipment and updated CCP yesterday to see I'm required to use a Dealer Portal login.

My dealer went away quite a while ago, my system backup is outdated (kicking myself), and my binary of CCP is ancient.

After the Harmony announcement this feels like the end of mid grade self managed remotes. Any other options out there that don't rely on IR?

I'm not sure what you mean by "don't rely on IR". How are you communicating with your devices?

What rule did you put in your firewall?

Good clarification, I meant RF (or whatever) to a base station, which must support IR. I have two pairs of MX-980s and base stations. Thinking through what is actually set up, I do need IR on the remote in some cases. The base stations are a blend of IR eyes/blaster and some wired IR.

Timing is just not ideal for me. My needs are a lot different than they used to be, and I'd rather not think through what a good fit is right now.

Thanks for the warning. Not very nice to have an update that locks out users without telling them. I wonder what percentage of URC remote sales were to DIY users, I have 8 URC remotes and 4 KP-4000 keypads, I won't be buying anything else from URC

I use Kaspersky Internet Security. It has an Application Management section that lets you control applications execution and network access. I set it to not allow network access for CCP.

In my case, I updated two days ago and ran into the new Login requirement. My dealer, who provided the software, is long gone. It seems like the worst possible business model. Tell the dealers that is their discretion to provide the software, but have no provision for the customer when the dealer goes out of business and URC decides to enforce a new requirement. If URC had clearly stated that the software was for dealers only and prohibited dealers from distribution then as a customer you can make an informed decision about the purchase. As it stands my only backup for this software is more than a few years old so I hope I can get it to work with my MX980.

You should be fine, the MX-980 has been around a long time, I bought my first one back in I believe 2008. You might not have the latest code sets for some devices but you can usually find them on the web or learn them.

OK. In Windows 10 I was able to totally stop it from updating. What I did:
In Control Panel-Windows Firewall I added 4 outgoing rules. New Rule -> Program -> This Program path and browsed to C:\Program Files (x86)\Universal Remote Control, Inc\Complete Control Program.
I blocked ccp.exe, URCFrame.exe, URCLiveUpdate.exe, and URCLiveUpdate8.dll. Note that to block URCLiveUpdate8.dll I had to browse to the folder and then enter URCLiveUpdate8.dll.

Now when it starts it doesn't succeed in connecting to the mothership and thus no update available prompt. Also, if you select Live Update from Help -> Live Update it will fail as it cannot connect to the server.
