This is what I was told on a takeover job last June. Apparently, even then, tech support has to do some additional voodoo to make it happen. Fairly certain sacrificing a chicken under a full moon is part of the process, but they wouldn’t confirm.
This may be to prevent hostile takeovers of installations- if someone goes in and talks their way into the homeowner's wallet, they could prevent the installing dealer from going back to the original one once the FNG screws up and pisses the homeowner off enough.
I got a WattBox 300 from someone who owned a store and I'm not sure, but I think the homeowner was selling the house, so everything was removed to be taken somewhere else, or whatever. I tried to connect in the iPhone app and it didn't allow me, so I called Snap. I was told the other dealer has to release it before I can use it.
