Fred, you've succumbed to the length of my post.... look again at TEST 2.
I've been doing mostly commercial work for quite a while, during which time my BD Player died, so I have none now. TEST 1 used the DirecTV receiver, but I was not accepting those results without some comparison, so for TEST 2 I connected the HDMI output of an old thing made for copying VHS onto DVD. So... it has in it a DVD recorder that has an HDMI output.
Might it be that this receiver only works with newer HDMI signals? Could be but should not be.
