builders don't have to live in the house so they don't care,. i have been in a number of production built houses around here that did not even have COAX drops in the bedrooms because the builders believe everything is wireless - which is why they will balk at $100 for a wire drop. they are used to electrician prices and to them a "wire is a wire".
Its a buddy system because the builder will promise XX# of houses and the sparky works on volume rather than high margins - unlike us- so builders do not value the economics of our business.
also - the cable/sat/internet companies around here will cut off all your home run terminations and put on their own so its pointless to trim most of them out. that way they are responsible for the quality of the terminals because apparently many electricians did not go to low Voltage terminations class.
