I put in some Mobotix stuff at a house that had some specific requirements for the gate system. I used one of their MX2Wire extender module sets and they worked great. They're PoE devices that convert ethernet to a 2-conductor which you can then send quite a distance, then convert back to ethernet. That run was a little more than 900'. I had to use the existing wiring that was in the ground, and there was no power at the gate. Those worked quite well.
On other jobs where there were multiple buildings, we've used fiber converters by Transition networks, I think it was. That was in Colorado and those things worked through some very, very cold climates.
