You're not saying what you think is being done that makes things more difficult. Expressing oneself incompletely makes things more difficult!
IR Scrutinizer requires some codes to be able to generate the entire set. That requires a remote that can issue some of those commands. So no, talking about getting a Pronto, etc, is not making things more difficult than needed.
There are very few remote codes that are not documented in some form or fashion Ernie. I linked 2 websites already that have thousands of clean codes and the information needed to generate every code in that set.
Maybe if the Op told us what he was actually looking for he would already have the codes he needs.
