So I had two of these happening.

First one was not HDMI as client reported, but his RF failing from his patio remote. Done.

Second one in progress. Blue screen or "no signal" requiring about 20 start up sequences to get it working, then OK. Found the HDMI cable that had been run from the AVR, through brick, then in a 1/2" space between the old brick facing and sheetrock skin, to be tweaked at the plug due to pivoting the TV over many years.

Put a temp cable n between Comcast and AVR, and AVR and TV, and it started up 6-7 times in a row. Client planned to contact contractor who did the fireplace update 10+ years ago to ask him about running a new cable 🙄

Today client reports it blue screened again. Will sub an AVR for grins. Also have a couple of Brent's magic boxes for test.

Since this is the Comcast house, not the DTV one with the hot plug issue, does that change the device I would use?

There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.
