I do not know if this is possible. The videos sound awesome, but it is also possible that we may have to view ten videos, and try to figure out which device is the best to address a given problem. Is it possible to create a flowchart with symptoms, that lead us in the direction of the best device for that particular symptom? Perhaps there would be a couple troubleshooting steps in between the symptoms and the ideal device.

In addition to being a very real help to technicians in the field, it likely would aid in the sale of many more fantastic electronic gadgets for you!

This is a very common request, problem is that pretty much all problems have the same symptoms.
And those symptoms have many causes.

I am scripting a Solutions Video now, the goal is to provide an overview of the most common issues and which device to use.

Also, we do cover a lot of this in our Blog, if you are not signed up for it call your sales person at (866) 839-9187.
I am working on getting the blog and videos posted to IP "Ethereal" Mfgr. zone as well.

However I do have a unit coming (sadly CEIDA) that is an IR connecting block with a built in relay with code learning for Open/Close to provide a cost effective answer to this control issue.

Do we know a price on this magic IR box yet? Sounds awesome and something needed since Xantech got rid of theirs years ago.

Would a scaler between source and the display cure most of these problems as well? Since it supplies the display with a constant sync and never changing EDID?

I do not know price yet , but it will be in line with the price of our current IR connecting block that it was built on.
It has a 3.5mm Stereo input for the Included IR receiver (that supports the new RC-MM format) and 6 emitter outputs (includes 4 emitters).
It will learn your code choice for relay control, so you can use the product OEM remote (it however does not learn RC-MM codes).

I do not think so, it is the Hot Plug interrupt that makes the difference.
Keeping the Hot Plug charged is the problem.

Brent, would it be safe (as safe as one can be with hdmi), to spec the AIO since that device has a relay to disconnect hot plug and also help with EDID? More $ for the AIO, but if it saves a return trip...

Ever since I learned (1973, I think) that the lowly 2N3903 can be used as a switch, I have used relays only when the crudity of the electrical interruption required it. How f*cking ironic that what is touted as the world's best video transmission scheme needs the introduction of a relay to get it to work right. Sadder and way beyond that, even, is the fact that what this video system is not doing, without the relay, is just friggin' turning on in response to an ON command.

We really ARE stuck with this forever, aren't we? Can anyone say the problems have lessened?
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Yes, the EDID repair functions of the AIO are frequently a godsend.

Brent

Going off into the weeds a bit on this question, but just wondering:

Have you guys every considered an HDMI audio break out box with a variable audio delay output? Something with a knob that can fine tune the delay? It sure would be nice to have something like that when trying to match up audio delay in different zones.

A switch will not fix this issue, most keep the hot plug active to speed switching.

Fred:

Can you give me a better part number, that comes up as an IR receiver.

But, based on what comes up for that part number, no.
It is more like the Xantech CC12, except that it is a regular 6 emitter out connecting block that can learn any standard IR code(s) to open/close relay.

So I had two of these happening.

First one was not HDMI as client reported, but his RF failing from his patio remote. Done.

Second one in progress. Blue screen or "no signal" requiring about 20 start up sequences to get it working, then OK. Found the HDMI cable that had been run from the AVR, through brick, then in a 1/2" space between the old brick facing and sheetrock skin, to be tweaked at the plug due to pivoting the TV over many years.

Put a temp cable n between Comcast and AVR, and AVR and TV, and it started up 6-7 times in a row. Client planned to contact contractor who did the fireplace update 10+ years ago to ask him about running a new cable 🙄

Today client reports it blue screened again. Will sub an AVR for grins. Also have a couple of Brent's magic boxes for test.

Since this is the Comcast house, not the DTV one with the hot plug issue, does that change the device I would use?

There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.
