This happens when the TVos Software doesn't match the App firmware. Reset the appleTv, update the apple TV, force the update of the prime app. If you are using the original AppleTV codes, they won't work in certain apps. you will have to learn codes into the AppleTV if that is the case. If that doesn't work, throw the appletv out the window and get a Roku.
I will try and figure out how to force updates. I already reset the apple TV and it says it is up to date. I just added the prime app so I assumed it was up to date as well.
