I was told that the sensor shoots out of the bottom on a 45 degree angle. If you look at the bottom of the TV, you can see it. We have only done them on wall just like artwork, and they have all worked great. You may be able to remove the sensor, and angle it more into the room. I haven't checked yet to see if it is possible.
