I've used the Netgear Powerline unit in a pinch. I was visiting relatives on the west coast and hung a TV for them. This was in an older tri-level townhouse in the bay area. The ISP gear was on the top floor, the TV was on the first floor, and it needed a net feed for the smart features (Netflix, mainly). I was only there for a few days, and wasn't about to tear their place up, so we gave the Powerline set a shot and it actually worked like a charm.
