Never used anything like this and of course this is a last resort as I can’t run a wire. The requirement is to control a relay/ contact closure on a Total Control URC basestation.

I have never liked them but don't have a lot of experience with them.  I just used a pair of Ubiquiti Nanostation Loco M2s to bridge a wired network between a main house and a barn a few days ago.  Wireless fed the signal to the barn and connected the second Nanostation to a POE switch to feed cameras.  Works perfectly.  Not sure if practical in a house from one area to another.  It was not expensive either.

Over the years I've had decent results with the Netgear units. I've tried a few others that turned out to be unreliable. In any case, EoP is always my last resort.

I've used the Netgear Powerline unit in a pinch. I was visiting relatives on the west coast and hung a TV for them. This was in an older tri-level townhouse in the bay area. The ISP gear was on the top floor, the TV was on the first floor, and it needed a net feed for the smart features (Netflix, mainly). I was only there for a few days, and wasn't about to tear their place up, so we gave the Powerline set a shot and it actually worked like a charm.

What is the contact closure's function?
My mechanic told me, "I couldn't repair your brakes, so I made your horn louder."

Netgear has worked well for me.

Uh oh, thought no one would ask lol. Fireplace. The master power switch for it will stay in place for safety.

I have two Netgear installs that have been reliable. I tried Trendnet which did not work well.

Wow I bet you were relieved! Sounds like you’ve put it to the test. I’ll look into these.

Thanks for your responses everyone. Hope you all have a fun and productive week.

OK, i see the title now, its over POWER LINE. My actiontec solution is over coax. However, I have one set up on power line set up. I will have to look up the parts i used. But i do know that it was not on the same power circuit/breaker if thats a concern.

Actiontec did have some over power. I should look at some of the manuals. Youtube guy may not know what he’s talking about it wouldn’t make sense for this to one work just going one side of a room to the other but there has to be some limitations otherwise you’d be broadcasting out to the entire electrical grid. I don’t understand the science behind them.

There is not much danger of EoP going out into the region. Power lines are not very efficient at transporting the high frequencies required to force 100+ Mbps data over the power line. In fact jumping across to the other phase in a home environment often attenuates the signal enough to cause problems. If the outlet on the other side of the room is on the other phase, the signal may not cross the room. A sub panel can cause issues. Good power conditioners are a big issue.

We regularly get into heated discussions over category wiring. Should it be 5, 6, 7, or what? Shielded? Which connector is best? Should we use a patch panel? For EoP should we use Romex, MX, what gauge? Why are there no discussions regarding the best EoP wire? Should we insert couplers across the phases? What if there is some Knob And Tube wiring? Is one type of power outlet better than others?
