Hertz, I've seen that work for some people, and other people have bit themselves in the ass with that attitude.
The speaker design/manufacture/AV chain I worked for had a speaker designer who knew electronics, and several times he was called on to troubleshoot and fix demonstration equipment in some of the stores. He finally started complaining, saying "this is not my job." This was stuff the company needed, that he could do, that was happening without interfering with his regular duties.
Well, sure enough, within a couple of months, it was not his job.
