both of those things sound like a simple pair of glasses could help you out. That makes sense as far as the shooting example goes.
What's counterintuitive is that not being able to read in dim light might be solved by glasses. See, if your focus is perfect, you don't need much light. If your focus is not perfect, more light will constrict your pupils, limiting the percentage of your eye lenses through which the light passes, which sharpens the image. A pair of glasses can fix that.
