I spent some time today with an Apple TV 4k, Yamaha TSR7810, Sony z9, and a Sony soundbar.
Direct to TV, HDR 4:2:2 no problem. Through Yamaha, sdr only. I dinked with all the settings in everything. What ended up "fixing" it was setting video in Yamaha to "processing " instead of "direct", then setting output resolution to 4k. This allowed apple TV to send hdr 4:2:2.
For the record, it worked fine through that crusty soundbar which is in use for the time being until client decides on speakers.
