I'm guessing practicality is the last thing on the minds of the folks designing the IE. It's one of those cars (as so many top end ones are these days) that really is only appropriate for the track, but it's far too pretty and rare to actually take to the track and risk destroying it. So many of these cars these days are limited editions as well; so, if you destroy it, you can never replace it (or maybe one of the folks who bought one and put it in a garage will be happy to sell it to you for twice the original price.)
