So if you are saying that you had a HR44 hooked straight to a SWM LNB and it worked for a year... WTF! Because theoretically that can NOT work. It just can't.

So sorry. It's an HR54, not HR44. HR54 is supposed to power the LNB, but because of distance, needed an inserter.
