While walking a very old dog with obvious hip issues, an old lady, easily in her nineties, passed by. The lady looked down and spoke to the dog: "You are so lucky. When your time comes someone will help you out of your misery. No one will do that for me."

Even with the hip pain, the dog still was enjoying life and looked forward to those walks ... until one day (a couple years after meeting the old lady) the dog seemed to look at us and ask "why?" The next day we granted her wish. It was still hard for the humans, but there was some comfort knowing that the dog went out on her own terms.

I don't know how the old lady make out.
