It was not easy but it was best for him.

Sorry for your loss. I wish i had some words of wisdom or advice but i dont. It sucks. I still cant handle seeing old facebook photos of Kaner popup. Kaner died in July 4 years ago.

I miss riding around with him during my off time. Perfect passenger except when he scratched the hell out of my new paint job the day i brought it home :).

I donate but I do my research to see how much money is being used for admin vs going to research/help whoever. Wounded Warrior is sadly the biggest scam ever. Many people honestly believe that when you write a check out it's going 100% to the cause. Click that link and you will be shocked and even angered at how much is used for Admin.

Alex's lemonade Stand is another culprit. They had almost 20,000,000 in donations but they have 19,500,000 in "expenses" so only ~500,000 is going to fund cancer research :( really is sad.

It becomes a machine. And a dishonest one at that! Generally I donate locally as very little goes to the admin side. Do your due diligence though and giving can be very rewarding!

Before i give any donations I always ask how much goes to the actual cause? I think the law is 15% and most of the calls, when I ask them what amount goes to the cause, guess what amount goes to their cause? It is sad and really pisses me off. It is law that they have to tell you this info.

Like others here, we donate to a local organizations.

Sorry to hear that brother.

I lost both my black labs last year. It was tough.
But we got new pup (German Shepherd) and things quickly improved.

While walking a very old dog with obvious hip issues, an old lady, easily in her nineties, passed by. The lady looked down and spoke to the dog: "You are so lucky. When your time comes someone will help you out of your misery. No one will do that for me."

Even with the hip pain, the dog still was enjoying life and looked forward to those walks ... until one day (a couple years after meeting the old lady) the dog seemed to look at us and ask "why?" The next day we granted her wish. It was still hard for the humans, but there was some comfort knowing that the dog went out on her own terms.

I don't know how the old lady make out.

Sorry to hear about the lost pup. Never a dull moment in the lives that we live.

My 99 y.o., great grandfather was interviewed by the news outlets in Parker, CO this past weekend. He is a survivor of the Battle at Dunkirk. Man, the stories he could tell you is just unbelievable. He's the best!! Love and miss him and hope to see him soon!

Sit him down and record his stories, don't care how long it takes, how many hours. You will be glad you did, I GUARANTEE YOU.

My kids are so sorry they did not record my dad, a WWII vet.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

The problem with interviewing my dad about his time in the Marines, is that he just wouldn't talk about it, no matter how many times I might ask.

All I know for certain is that he had a street named after him on Guam, and I have multiple medals he was given from his time in the war, ranging from a Purple heart to a Silver Star, so he did some "things" as he called them.

As a Vietnam vet, I know I saw and did, nothing on the level that he must have.

Sorry to hear that. We had to go through that about a month ago. First time I'd ever had to do it. Growing up our dogs always got hit by a car or had something happen. I cried like a baby. I think it was easier when I grandparents passed. I had more time to prepare and could talk to them.

Thanks Fins.
I agree it's easier when old people die than when old dogs die.
Old people have been around a long time but old dogs, only 12-15 years to us even though it's 90 to them.
Sorry to hear of yours also.

This morning, I am installing ViaTools 10 on my Windows 10 laptop. The numbers match, so I thinking it should go perfectly. :)
