It's just AMAZING, the damage that is done when the parents haven't been able to teach the proper response to "NO!"

I'd bet that a properly non-demotivated kid with the same plastic bat could destroy another of the same TV screens even if it were covered with Lexan, especially if he happens to hit the center of the screen. Now, a half inch of Lexan, with an 1/8" of space between it and the screen... that would be better.
