Yes, I'd get rid of it. I'd ask for component for cheaper electronics and SDI for more expensive electronics.
And maybe this makes sense: now that so many components are made to connect to a network, we could run all the control "features" on a separate CAT cable that could be daisy-chained. Mostly, it would be NOT on the same cable as the video signal!
