Sometimes it is the case that there is too much pride involved with checking the work. At one point we had a subcontractor helping with installations. He thought that he was so good that he didn't need to check anything. He'd be out in the field and call in "not working" -- indicating that this was a design issue and he would leave. Worse, he would tell the customer "done" and leave. A few minutes later the customer would call with a "not working" complaint. In both cases we would go out and have the system working in a minute or two. (these were complicated issues, such as plugging in an IR emitter) Needless to say, we don't use that sub anymore.

That's one thing about subs that many forget- they can tank someone else' business very quickly by failing to do things to the standards which are acceptable to the people who hired them. This is also one thing that employees may not even think about- "I gotta go" trumps "I need to check everything, to make sure it works for the big party this weekend" and that reflects directly on the people who's name is on the contract and whose reputation will be ruined if this gets out of hand.

Some fret over every detail, some don't know what this means because they can't bring themselves to do it.
My mechanic told me, "I couldn't repair your brakes, so I made your horn louder."
