Ever hear of Fastenal?
Yes. I located my closest store, in Long Beach, and searched for metric machine screws. The first result I got was
M5-0.8 x 30mm DIN 7985 Phillips Drive Pan Head Zinc Finish Steel Machine Screw
Based on my experience I'll say that's a not uncommon size. I don't know Fastenal's criteria for putting a product as first in a search result, but it seems maybe they also don't think it's an unusual product.
I said there's no place I can walk into and buy these by the hundreds. Here's the status on this product at Fastenal:
Shipping: Leaves Indianapolis warehouse within 1 business day
Long Beach, CA Store: Available in 1-2 days
In other words, I cannot walk into Fastenal and buy any quantities AT ALL of this bolt. That's exactly what I said.
Torrance Industrial Hardware and Culver City Industrial Hardware, related stores, are where I go for my metrics in bulk. And bulk always means counting them out from the sometimes random collection they have in stock.
