First, I want to find what moron decided to make the backs of the SUHD panels curved and setting the threads at different depths so you have to use their included spacers to level up the mount brackets. But what I can't decide is who is responsible for the fact that no mounts now have bolts long enough to reach through the spacers and catch the threads. Is it the mount manufacturer for not including more options, especially a bolt over 40mm? Or is it samsungs for not trimming their stupid spacers when they should know by now that no manufacturer has bolts over 40mm with their mounts?

Or would it be just as productive to yell at the individual who Spec'ed Samsung panels when I've been saying let's use something that's not as much a pain in the ass?

Sure, but not when you don't expect it and you are already onsite! :)

I charge more for any install involving anything with a Samsung moniker on it. :P

Although my cruddy Samsung fridge magically started working again recently. Freezer broke before Thanksgiving. Not a huge deal really. I just used the freezer compartment for beverage storage since it still stayed as cold as the fridge.

Well my kids got bent that their juice boxes were frozen last week. WTF? Sure enough. All the error lights stopped flashing, and the freezer works again.

I will still never recommend Samsung anything to anyone.

So to answer your question again Fins, yell at Samsung!

Samsung has been the consistent winner of the "Unnecessary, Completely Avoidable and Gratuitous F*ck*p Of The Year" Award.

The first one I saw over a decade ago occurred before Samsung had discrete input commands. Suddenly, when you were on a video input and you hit Channel Up, you got a small message saying "that function is not available from here" or words to that effect.

TV and Mount manufacturers all think they know it all. So, so wrong.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Take a pair of pliers and a hacksaw from your toolbox, and cut all four of them in half. Now you have enough spacers for two TVs. Total time less than five minutes. Next problem. If that is the worst troubleshooting job or custom requirement for the day, you are having a good day.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

I have 12 TVs and they are all for a very demanding high end sporting club. If just one is slightly skewed because I miscut a spacer, it won't be a pretty sight. Plus, I'm a five hour drive from home. I want a more precise solution. But even so, I shouldn't have to be finding a solution in the field. Samsung should have included bolts that match their thread pitch and their spacer sizes.and at the same time, For several years now, no mount manufacturer has included bolts that match Samsung tvs without doing some weird combination of spacers. They should have figured out what other sized bolts to include.

Could at least all NC based mount manufacturers pay attention to this, since I know you read this forum?

I posted about this a long time ago (I think on IP):

1) I have a container box (something like this) =
[Link: homedepot.com]

2) Fill it with your own bolts & spacers =
[Link: amazon.com]

[Link: amazon.com]

You're done!
Why is no one doing this and then complaining about not having the right materials. You get to even charge a $5-$10 "materials fee" if the stupid mount the customer supplied, didn't have the right assortment of hardware. :)

As I read down the thread I was thinking "surely you would have bought a pack of bolts that do fit by now then..."

Thankfully it looks like someone else does the same as me and recognises there is an ongoing problem and resources the necessary hardware to prevent it continuing to be one.

You do remember that we are 'custom' installers right?

Each of our vans has a bolt and spacer assortment kit, just for when it's NOT all handed to you on a plate by the manufacturer....
What do you mean you wanted it on the other wall - couldn't you have mentioned this when we prewired?

Well, if it's your boss, you could yell at him to save the company money and save you heartburn by getting one of the TVs and one of the mounts into the shop for a fitting before you go out and kill yourself or someone else trying to do a dozen of these. (I hope they're putting you up, five hours from home!)

You can't just go buy a pack of these things. All the bolts that go into TVs are metric. Try to find a pack of them! There are two industrial hardware places in Los Angeles that have this stuff. And yes, I have a parts box full of them, as well as ALL the leftover bolts from my TV installs over the years.

This really struck me one day when I ran out of togglers and went to Home Depot to buy some. I hate them because they come with soft steel bolts... so I bought HUNDREDS of different length 1/4-20 bolts, got some nuts and washers, found a hundred togglers with no bolts on Amazon for $40 or so, maybe $50... no problems now!

I never check new tvs for bolt pattern changes. This post about needing custom sizes for twelve tvs has me rethinking that.

TV distributors are pushing us to check box content for shipping damage. It's a good time to check the bolt pattern as well. Bummer. Good luck.

Well, I worked my ass off and managed to get all 15 tvs mounted by myself today. But when I was bitching about the bolts, I forgot to also rant about that stupid outboard HDMI box Samsung has on the SUHD models.

we installed several of these a couple of weeks ago. these tvs are very thin, however, when you attach the input breakout box with 3m doublesided tape (stupid, stupid, stupid) and the ridiculously long spacer, this tv is no longer thin. the spacers are like 1 3/4" deep and the breakout box cable is is about 6' long with a huge end on it. what in the world is samdung thinking?

i cut each of the spacers down with dikes and it worked fine, but a stupid design.

Wow, I could only have done 1/2 that many in an 8 hour day (being by myself). But I'm slow also (which I already know).
Did you do it all in 8 hours or did you pull a 10-12 hour day today?

Being as I'm in the UK, yes I can...!

However I will admit I never thought getting metric bolts would be a problem in the US.
