As far as the interface, to most people, the C4 interface for example is custom because they probably have never seen an interface before. They don't know or care that it is the same for every C4 customer out there. I want to say that as of Cedia, there were 200,000 homes with C4 in the US. So odds are that most of these people don't hang out in each other's houses.

It's a matter of our stupid pride, which really doesn't matter to anyone else but us.

Where the fixed interface comes into an issue is when you finish a job and the client says "so how do I listen to music and watch tv at the same time"
