We left Uverse (while it was still AT&T here in CT. It was bought by Frontier and sh1t REALLY went south). The reason I left Uverse was because of internet. We went with a combo of Charter for internet and Dish for TV. We are paying more, but I no longer have all the hoops to jump through that AT&T had me doing to simply try and port forward for viewing cams offsite. I had issues with other systems as well, all with offsite viewing and services. While I pay a little more per month, ALL of that aggravation went out the window the day we switched. It's been smooth sailing since.

Funny, when I at AT&T in CT. I had my own modem, I think I had it from SNET days. Although this was DSL version of U-Verse. Made me mad when they told me U-Verse was available in my area. But it was actually DSL, not their super high speed.

So I don't know how that works. Is it a totally different modem and that modem isn't available for ownership for the super high speed U-Verse?
