A template in Wordpress is more flexible than a GUI template for control. Even when using the same template the design can vary greatly. Colors, images, layout, and even font adjustments will create two different looking websites even if the structure is similar on the same theme.

Good start on the site and I see the under construction on your signature but man, gotta clean up your color scheme. That red text on black background and in your menu is tough to read. New colors or increase your font size and bold text would definitely help.
Hasbeen great job on your site, very sleek and easy to follow. Using a lot of nice subtle features on there.
