Could also be that the power standby via 232 is tied to WOL in some way, or that it was just some quirk is set-up.
I have dome a lot of XBRs via serial with no issues, but can't think of a single one that wasn't connected to the internet from day one to update firmware before any control programming even began. This was my first experience with USB update.
