There was IP control, as long as you consider the Apple Remote App on your phone to be IP control.
I haven't looked in a couple of weeks but when it came out the new ATV didn't even support the Apple remote app.
He's questioning gen4. I'm replying in regards to gen4. Yes of course control via the Remote app worked on previous versions; it does not on gen4.
