not at all. I can't understand why anyone in the biz would be surprised by it. I have several clients eagerly awaiting it (some that want me to import the Japanese Panasonic player for them that should be coming out soon). Like others have said Netflix and all he other streaming 4k sources barely keep up with 1080p B on the picture (d behind on audio), the only one that is even remotely decent is the Sony 4k DL. Anyone interested in quality A/V would be interested in UHD BD

can't see why that would be the case. Especially considering it will most likely come at a premium early on. This the time where they can make the most money. Loo at 4k TVs there was a time when a k TV would be 10x the same 1080p TV today it is close to 2x.
I can picture the Yamahas, Denons, and Integras sourcing out a player from Funai or somebody that makes them cheap. Producing their own would be too expensive.
where do you think your AppleTv..... was made? No matter what you think is the future most electronics ( and their parts) are mass produced where it s cheap.
