Think of all the Dtv, Dish, and cable customers who would be pissed off if they had to use another remote to turn the TV on or change the volume. I am not saying it would be a surprise if one day a tv manufacturer decides to forgo IR control. But I do not any of them are prepared to deal with the backlash at this time.
