That's just because they want to sell you the amp. It'll work fine with any good amplifier.

But using the DSP filters prevents extremely low (and higher) frequencies from reaching the speaker and that's part of good system design- allowing the drivers to work within their capabilities, not trying to make them do what the user/integrator wants. It also compresses and limits the dynamics, which is needed outdoors.

The Sonarray, Niles, Snap, Skywalker and Origin Acoustics "Malibu-style" outdoor speakers are available with this amp- a simple power amp is less able to do what the Crown amp does if there's no way to send to the subwoofer the signal that works best without killing it.
My mechanic told me, "I couldn't repair your brakes, so I made your horn louder."
