No one likes modern country except Tweens and house wives. It's the same that listen to Disney artists. Funny how the older I get and the more I appreciate music, the more bluegrass stands out to me. There's something about its influence on American music that seems to bring so many back to it. You ever check out any Doc Watson? It's amazing how many pop stars list him as an influence
Doc & Merle were great- I don't know if you're familiar with Al DiMeola, but in a Guitar Player Magazine interview in the late-'70s, he said Doc was a big influence and that he used to learn to play all of those guitar parts. Then, he found out that Doc was finger picking a lot of it and Al was flat-picking all of it. Nothing about DiMeola's style sounds anything like Bluegrass, but he learned it.
