Hopefully you do not "lose" her like she lost that cat. :)
BTW, that cat must really hate its owner to run 100 blocks away. My cat has never been collared, fenced, locked up, etc. And we have moved 3 or 4 times with him. He always seems to come home. He used to disappear for a few days at a time. But I never worried. That is why I have a cat instead of a dog. Much less maintenance. Probably not as emotionally attached. I figure if he gets fed up, and leaves, he has a good reason and I am not going to be butt hurt if he wants to go elsewhere. Hell, I have even wished him an early demise several times so I can get some kind of semi-exotic and rare cat breed to replace him with. Is that so bad?
Now my mom, on the other hand, is the crazy cat lady. Most of hers are feral strays that scatter when a human approaches. But she keeps feeding them, so they keep coming around. Most are pretty shabby and would be better off dead honestly.
