OK... i just watched the intro to DM 4K videos and got my answer. It does require a DMCO-8 Output card for a 4K display.

take the training/read more. DMCO-XX cards have been replaced with DMC-XXX-YYYY cards.
Also newer HDMI 2.0/HDCP 2.2 cards are on their way for 8G+/Fiber.
