FWIW, I use Remote Potato to watch my recorded TV remotely. MB3 also works. Plex sort of works, but isn't practical in my case (pegs my CPU when transcoding, and my upload speed is not sufficient). I've played with XMBC (Kodi) briefly, but it wasn't my cup of tea (didn't like the interface). Any movies I might want to watch, I just bring with me, or VPN to stream directly. I just run a VPN server on my HTPC since my router can't do it. I don't watch movies on my phone.

I'm envious of you solar system. I've wanted to do solar for years, but costs have not come down enough in my part of the country to make it viable.
