Huh? He was using Airplay, so the phone wasn't connected to the sound system.
Find iPhone played over his audio system. Finding the phone was made impossible by Find iPhone not just playing on the phone's speaker.
The phone's volume was turned "way down" on the phone itself. It's not clear that the phone was actually inaudible, but it certainly was much quieter than the audio system! How could a deaf man have found a phone sounding at, say, 65 dB when the whole-house system was playing at 120 dB (okay, let's be reasonable: 85 dB)?
I'd say Find iPhone works if a)it sounds at full volume and b)it only sounds on the phone, not on any external device unless actually wired into the headphone jack.

A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything. "The biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place." -- G. “Bernie” Shaw |
