The least they could do is have the wall plate level and true. It's not all that difficult.

Especially with a single gang plate.

However, this is probably an example of a trade doing his work without thinking: the paper was indeed applied extremely well. Look how well the dots line up vertically: that paper is positioned correctly within thousandths of inches. The paper hanger had probably been barked at previously for getting into other people's business by questioning the things he was supposed to cover with paper. "Just do your work and stop causing trouble." I can see that.


A question I once asked of an electrician who demanded that I "line up" my volume control with his double gang light switches: "Since your box is not level, do you want mine level with the left edge, the right edge, or do you want the top of my plate in line with the angle of your plate?"

The electrician had smacked the nail at the top of the box much harder than the one at the bottom of the box, so every box in the project was lower on the left.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.
