Lync is geared to business but it's still not fully baked and the video quality is awful. I've got several clients who thought they were going to use Lync for large scale video conferencing, they are all looking for alternatives since the quality is just not there.

Microsoft management is the problem.
They are still trying to figure out how they want to link skype and lync and just recently made it possible to link the 2 platforms. It's a mess.

It's a shame because it doesn't have to be that way, they could join the platforms and have a market leader, but they don't have a clear vision so they just keep screwing around with both products and are afraid to fully integrate them in case they want to sell one of them off.
