Just curious what you guys think of these various options on the market now. THe Chromebox looks like a pretty cool solution for companies that just commit to this in all locations.

But so does the Crestron Microsoft Lync Solution, however I'm sure this will be more expensive. at $999 the Chromebox hits a great price point.

I looked at pricing for the Crestron system and you are looking at $14K without a Display, with a Display you are at $20K. The display (a 65" touch screen) is priced at $8500 on Crestron's website
You can't fix stupid

I'm pretty sure I saw a conceptualized version of this at InfoComm last year (I don't remember what they called it). It was pretty cool, but like you said, not for everyone due to cost.

I believe Microsoft lync is on an entirely different level. I've run I to lots of issues with google hangout and echo issues. Perhaps in smaller spaces it's a good solution. Like your small 8'x8' meeting rooms.

Microsoft Lync seems to be something geared as a solution for business and the crestron meeting solution compliments it.

but I really don't know much in this realm.

Lync is geared to business but it's still not fully baked and the video quality is awful. I've got several clients who thought they were going to use Lync for large scale video conferencing, they are all looking for alternatives since the quality is just not there.

Microsoft management is the problem.
They are still trying to figure out how they want to link skype and lync and just recently made it possible to link the 2 platforms. It's a mess.

It's a shame because it doesn't have to be that way, they could join the platforms and have a market leader, but they don't have a clear vision so they just keep screwing around with both products and are afraid to fully integrate them in case they want to sell one of them off.

I use Lync in a business environment that serves thousands of users. I find the video quality excellent. Is 720p good enough for you? I think your clients just weren't using the latest version, or just lacked hardware that could handle the compression/decompression, lacked adequate bandwidth, or was just plain slow. (Bad ping times are an indication that the network is just not up to the task.)

I think the following article details how Lync 2013 handles video, and it certainly points that Lync 2013 itself is designed to handle high resolutions.

Don't know how or where you got your info, but it just appears wrong to me.

I have a great video of Crestron's implementation from a visit to their offices. It's pretty nifty. I'll get it posted soon.

My info is my experience, if it works for you in large scale videoconferening then great, but that has not been my experience.
