I've used the Sn@p kits with mostly success. Some issues I have ran into have been....
1) at low volumes sub turns on and off & you hear the "thump".
2) I've had some sort of static when the whole system is off to.
Sn@p is really good with tech support and usually can find a solution or will send you a replacement if necessary.
As far as a sub Balun kit....I've never tried it before but couldn't you use a composite Balun and just use one of the channels? Not sure though.

Knowing that Gold went up a few K makes me think "well now I have to do a better job on selling more equipment".
