Wireless Sub signal?

I just tried a Snap wireless sub kit and had some issues.
First the range was terrible. I only needed to go 35' and could only get half of that with questionable results. It kept cutting in and out.
The problem could be the Pro Control Z processor. When I had the Snap wireless kit plugged in it killed the Pro Control remote. I couldn't control the cursor, etc. I tried moving the transmitter a little but didn't have a lot of room to move it.
SO, what wireless sub kits have you used with good results? I do have an option of doing some type of sub balun over 2 pairs of cat5. If there is even such a beast? Anyone know of such a thing? I'm sure it'll be more reliable than something wireless.
I have found wireless "kits" from Sunfire and Atlantic Technology. If anyone has any feedback on these, Please let me know. TIA

I've used the Sn@p kits with mostly success. Some issues I have ran into have been....

1) at low volumes sub turns on and off & you hear the "thump".
2) I've had some sort of static when the whole system is off to.

Sn@p is really good with tech support and usually can find a solution or will send you a replacement if necessary.

As far as a sub Balun kit....I've never tried it before but couldn't you use a composite Balun and just use one of the channels? Not sure though.
Knowing that Gold went up a few K makes me think "well now I have to do a better job on selling more equipment".

I've tried a variety of wireless sub kits, most fail (and affect RF control systems); I have had great luck with the soundcast - subcast kit, but its expensive ($250 retail)...but is also the only one I've found to work reliably.

Going wireless for 35' is a terrible idea in general...and since you have a cable you can use, you ABSOLUTELY should go that route.

All you need is a basic 2 conductor analog audio 'balun'

Any audio balun should work- just make sure it's actually isolating the input form the output, so a ground loop won't be a problem.

This interests me. I'm afraid of ground loops. Can you please give us an example of an isolated balun?

Thanks, Craig.

I have used the AV baluns from Skywalker- they use Cat5e and I really haven't noticed frequency loss, although I use them for distributed audio, not the main signal. Yeah, they're cheap, but they have worked well. I think I used MuxLab, too.

At one house, I have a rack in the basement for the DA amps, camera DVR, garage receiver, DA preamp and an AppleTV & AVR used for the Den system. In the Den, which is directly over the rack, I have the TV, ReQuest, LaserDisc and BD player. The 3rd floor has a complete AV system, with network, cable feed (now used to bring the TV/FM antenna feed from that floor to the rest of the house) and an AV feed from the rack, which has video from the camera DVR and DA feed. No noise, no ground loop isolators, either. I'm not sure the ones with composite are still available, but pretty sure the component type are. Since the DVR feed doesn't really need to be HD, this works fine, although the AVRs up-convert. I have a CE Labs distribution amp for the cameras and DA feeds, so I don't have to deal with level losses. This house is over 100 years old and the wiring has been altered many times so it would be impossible to assure great integrity, but until the electricians ran three huge power cables next to and parallel to my audio/speaker/network cabling, it never had any noise.

Can you install cable to the sub's location? To eliminate the turn off/on issue, have you tried raising the level from the source and decreasing the input on the sub? I think the signal sense may be ahead of the level control- it would make sense to do it that way.

We've used a bunch of them (Snap, Sunfire, Soundcast) and they all suck. We used all of them because it seemed like one brand would fix the problem...and then that brand would have problems on another job. We aren't going to use them anymore.

They need to make these things function on a frequency other than 2.4 GHz. There are WAY too many devices on 2.4 GHz and I think this is causing the problem with this family of products.

On a side note, anyone want to buy some used Snap, Sunfire and Soundcast kits?
