My samsung BD will do the exact same thing when it needs an update and you've skipped a few in the past (and in my case my wife keeps skipping passed them like she doesn't know how to read english).  But that's my wife, I'm sure all of your clients do their regular updates when needed.  

Wife: "What does a firmware update do anyway?"
Me: "It updates the firmware"
Wife: "Why"
Me: "Because it needs to"

As I look down at her phone and see that she needs to do about 14 updates on her iphone.
