Make sure that there isn't another instance of the editor software running in the background. Go to task manager and make sure mxedit.exe isn't a running process with the editor closed. This will happen sometimes when you plug the serial adapter in after you open the editor. Stop the process if it is running, make sure the adapter is plugged in and reopen the editor.

I have tried this numerous times and I keep getting the message the com port is being used by another program. exit the program that is using the com port. I have no other program using the com port that I am aware of.
